Is My Financial Backgrond Will Affect My Future Employment???

I filed Chapter 13, 5 years ago due to a divorce and it has been released, means, it’s over. I wonder if this is going to affect my future employment. I’m planning on applying for a job as a law enforcement which is always has been my passion. Why do they have to check your financial background if your have a good record with your past employment?

it should not be a factor in a law enforcement job. generally credit is considered more for people working with access to cash / banks or controllers in large companies. the theory is that if a person is in dire straits they may be tempted to steal.
an experienced hiring manager will look at the strengths/ weaknesses / risks and make a decision. bankruptcy is not all a bad thing. how do we get people to step up and take chances ? no one would dare to start a new business or try something new if they knew the financial consequences/risks would be life long. countries that don’t have bankruptcy don’t have a lot of small business or entrupenrial type of behavior because their people can’t afford to take risks / reach higher . if someone gets sick and maxes out insurance, should they have to lose their life savings / retirement ?
most people do not understand bankruptcy law or the reasons why is a legal right / protection to us.
your BK is 5 years ago … your current credit should be built up again. your score actually goes higher about 2 years after BK because you can’t legally do another one for a few years. you can end up with a higher score than someone who has never done a bk. i would not worry about this.

  2. Because statistically, people with poor credit are more likely to “call in” and steal.
It also is a measure of integrity. People that enter into financial contracts and file for bankruptcy, don’t seem to “get” that someone else took a direct loss and had to foot the bill.
It’s just like borrowing money from someone and never paying it back.

my OPINION is that employers should not need a reason to check your credit but they do have to ask you for permission
